"Henry, I think we're breaking through the ether net here," joked engineer John [sic] Pines when
he and Lanterna mainman Henry Frayne were mixing the band's radio-noise collage subsequently
dubbed 'Ether Net.' But space is not the final frontier for Frayne and collaborator/drummer
Brendan Gamble. It's just another place -- like Terra Haute, Italy or Maine -- visited on
LANTERNA, their debut CD beautifully packaged by Independent Project
Press and released by Parasol. Fans of somber
ambient music should already be familiar with Frayne and Gamble's work with Moon Seven Times.
More experimental than that band, Lanterna's vocalless sci-fi spaghetti-western soundtracks and
lush atmospheric works were inspired by Kevin Salemme's scenic photos which adorn the CD. Frayne
has more recently collaborated with Hector Zazou on former Passions singer Barbara Gogan's solo
album and is currently writing material for the third Moon Seven Times LP, but he's always working
on Lanterna, at least conceptually. Here's hoping he finds time to further explore the 'dark
moody, ambient places.'" (Parasol, 905 S.
